Giuseppe Marotta "optimistic" Andrea Pirlo will extend contract

Juventus general manager Giuseppe Marotta is "optimistic" that Italian midfielder Andrea Pirlo will sign a new contract.

Juventus general manager Giuseppe Marotta has revealed that he is "optimistic" that Andrea Pirlo will sign a new contract with the club.

The 34-year-old's current deal with the Italian champions runs out next summer, with a number of European sides reported to be monitoring developments.

"Pirlo? I am quite optimistic about his renewal," Marotta told Sky Sport Italia.

The Italian midfielder, who has also played for Inter Milan and AC Milan, joined Juventus on a free transfer in 2011.
