Nothing to separate Juventus, Sevilla in goalless Champions League clash

Stalemate between Juventus, Sevilla in Turin

Juventus had the better of things but could not find a way past Sevilla as they were made to settle for a goalless draw in their opening Champions League match.

The hosts had a total of 10 shots all evening but could only find the target on three occasions, while their opponents - winners of the Europa League for three seasons running - tested Gianluigi Buffon just once.

A cagey opening quarter to the match set the tone, as Leonardo Bonucci blasted wide from long range, while Sergio Rico had to be alert to keep out Sami Khedira's attempt.

The closest either side came to a breakthrough arrived an hour in when Gonzalo Higuain nodded the ball against the crossbar, shortly before turning Khedira's cross wide of the goal.

Juve, who are the only side to have made a perfect start in the Italian top flight, continued to knock on the door as Miralem Pjanic came close and Marko Pjaca was denied when appealing for a penalty.

Massimiliano Allegri's charges kept their best until last, however, with Rico needed to keep out Alex Sandro's header and an acrobatic Dani Alves effort in the closing stages to rescue his side a point.
