Gianluigi Buffon hopeful of World Cup victory

Italy captain Gianluigi Buffon says that his country are aiming to win the World Cup in Brazil next summer.

Gianluigi Buffon has said that he is hopeful of Italy's chances in the World Cup next summer.

The Azzurri captain was part of the side that won the 2006 tournament in Germany and is targeting further success in Brazil.

"The World Cup is an incredibly difficult tournament and one that is almost impossible to win," Football Italia quotes him as saying.

"If in that period we create a team spirit, a unity of intents and generally optimal fitness levels, then we could well hold out for seven games and maybe even win.

"The group with Uruguay, England and Costa Rica is tough, certainly more difficult than some groups, but on a par with others."

Buffon has won 138 caps for the Italian national side.
