Marcus Stewart tells Daryl Murphy to stay at Ipswich Town

Daryl Murphy would "be a fool" to leave Ipswich Town for another Championship club, according to Marcus Stewart.

Former Ipswich Town striker Marcus Stewart has told Daryl Murphy that he would "be a fool" to leave the club this summer.

Murphy was the Championship's leading scorer last term with 27 goals to his name, which is said to have alerted the likes of Hull City, Queens Park Rangers and Fulham.

However, Stewart, who spent two seasons at Portman Road, has insisted that the Republic of Ireland international should only depart for a Premier League side.

"For me he's not going to go anywhere. I think he'd be a fool to leave Ipswich, that's my opinion," Stewart told the East Anglian Daily Times.

"He's done really well at Ipswich, the club is progressing under Mick McCarthy and so unless something a lot better comes up - and I'm talking about the Premier League - then he should stay."

Murphy, 32, has two years left to run on his contract with the Suffolk-based side.
