Richard Stearman to join Ipswich Town?

Wolves centre-back Richard Stearman may join Ipswich Town in a £1m move after the Midlands club bolstered their defensive options with £6.4m signing Roger Johnson.

Stearman's first-team place is likely to be under threat and it is believed that the Tractor Boys are interested in the 23-year-old former England Under-21 international.

Last season, 6ft 3in tall Stearman made 32 starts and four sub appearances, scoring one goal. However, he was largely covering for injured skipper Jody Craddock, who has just signed a new deal at Molineux.

Ipswich manager Paul Jewell has been active in the transfer market this summer, signing Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, Lee Bowyer, Michael Chopra, Nathan Ellington and Ivar Ingimarsson, as well as taking goalkeeper David Stockdale on loan from Fulham.
