Mick McCarthy expecting quiet transfer window

Ipswich Town manager Mick McCarthy says that he will not spend big in the winter transfer window.

Ipswich Town manager Mick McCarthy has revealed that he is not expecting to spend big in the winter transfer window.

The Tractor Boys have adopted a frugal approach to transfer activity in recent years yet still find themselves sixth in the table despite being one of the Championship's smallest spenders.

"We are not splashing out loads of money," McCarthy told Sky Sports News. "I have spent about £500,000 in three years, and Jonas Knudsen was around £325,000 of that.

"If we are dealing in free transfers or loans I am not convinced I can get anything better than what I have got, because I have got a really good squad, put together for a minimum amount, and we are sixth in the league.

"Unless you are going to spend £3.5m then that's something different, but we are not going to do that, so we will continue with our policy and see where we end up."

Ipswich received a reported £8m from newly-promoted Bournemouth for the services of defender Tyrone Mings in the last transfer window and have an estimated net profit of £18.8m on player transfers over the last five seasons.
