A Michael Chopra goal gives Ipswich Town a 1-0 win over Blackpool in the Championship clash at Portman Road.

Ipswich Town have secured all three points with a 1-0 victory over Blackpool at Portman Road this afternoon.

Blackpool almost took the lead early on when Matt Derbyshire came close to getting on the end of Matt Phillips's cross, but Luke Chambers was on hand to clear.

A second chance for the away side fell to Chris Basham, but he fired over from 14 yards out.

Ipswich's first effort came from David McGoldrick, but his volley was deflected wide for a corner. Daryl Murphy had a chance from the corner, though his shot was saved by Matt Gilks.

On 27 minutes, the Tangerines almost took the lead when Basham played Tiago Gomes in on goal, but the Portuguese midfielder could only hit the post.

Anthony Wordsworth's debut was cut short on 34 minutes through injury and he was replaced by Michael Chopra.

Chopra gave the home side the lead on 50 minutes when he got on the end of a long ball and finished well with his left foot.

A mix-up between Craig Cathcart and Gilks almost allowed Chopra in on goal, but the defence did just enough to clear.

Alex Baptiste almost brought the scores level on 79 minutes, but his header was cleared off the line.
