"Ordinary" Ipswich Town pleases Mick McCarthy

"Ordinary" Ipswich pleases McCarthy

Mick McCarthy has conceded that his Ipswich Town side were not at their best during their 3-0 victory over Leeds United at Portman Road yesterday afternoon.

Visiting Leeds had dominated large parts of the first half, but a red card to midfielder Tom Lees swung the game in Ipswich's favour, who went on to score three unanswered goals.

Reflecting on the performance, McCarthy has insisted that Ipswich had been deserving of some luck.

"I'm pleased because it's the first time in ages where we've actually got away with an ordinary performance," the East Anglian Daily Times quotes McCarthy as saying.

"Certainly, for 30 minutes, Leeds were better than us, but I remember going to Leeds and playing well and getting beat. I remember going to Bristol City and playing really well and getting beat and I remember going to [Nottingham] Forest and getting two sent off and deserving to get something. It's our turn today.

"I don't think there could be any argument about the red card. It changed the game. For once we were the beneficiaries of a decision."

The win has moved the Tractor Boys up to 16th in the Championship standings.
