Former Ipswich Town manager Paul Jewell expresses his regret that he was not given the funds to make new signings at Portman Road.

Paul Jewell has stated his belief that he would have been more successful during his stint as manager of Ipswich Town if he had been allowed to strengthen his squad further.

The 48-year-old was removed from the managerial position in October of this year with the club bottom of the Championship table. His replacement, Mick McCarthy, has since guided the Tractor Boys away from relegation trouble.

However, Jewell is adamant that his spell at Portman Road would have been different had he been handed some transfer funds.

"I had dinner with the owner, Marcus Evans, last week in London and we tried to go back and look at where we think we got things wrong," Jewell told Sky Sports News.

"I think possibly in the summer we should have strengthened. We tried to strengthen, but we couldn't strengthen for different reasons – hence we had so many loan players."

Jewell has also managed Bradford City, Sheffield Wednesday, Wigan Athletic and Derby County.
