Ipswich Town want to appoint Alan Shearer as the club's next manager, according to reports.

Alan Shearer has been interviewed for the vacant Ipswich Town job, according to reports.

Paul Jewell left Portman Road by mutual consent on Wednesday with Ipswich currently bottom of the Championship table and Shearer has been targeted as a possible candidate as his replacement, according to the Daily Star.

The 42-year-old, who is currently a pundit on Match of the Day, is believed to want former Hull City manager Iain Dowie as his assistant.

Shearer's only stint as a manager came when he took over as Newcastle United manager with eight games remaining of the 2008-09 season, but he was unable to prevent the club from being relegated to the Championship.
