Mancini: "Crazy mistakes" will cost us

Roberto Mancini has said that "crazy mistakes" might have cost his Inter Milan team a passage into Europe this season following Saturday's 3-2 defeat at Genoa.

Inter's hopes of reaching the Europa League potentially suffered irreversible damage last night as Mancini's side threw away a two-goal lead at Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

Maxime Lestienne's equaliser on 42 minutes was borne out of a defensive mix-up from the visitors, and the ex-Manchester City boss believes that it could cost them dear.

Finishing seventh in Serie A is enough to earn entry into the Europa League after Genoa - who sit fifth - were denied a UEFA license for the 2015-16 season earlier this month.

However, Mancini, whose troops sit eighth, two points behind Sampdoria having played one game more, says that Inter may have blown their chances of reaching Europe's secondary competition.

"The way we have played the last 14-15 games I though we could have got into Europe," Mancini told Sky Sport Italia.

"We have played well, but we make crazy mistakes. We conceded one goal today and two last week that were just absurd. We cannot win with goals like that.

"This match was the mirror of our season. We cannot blame anyone, we have to improve. The important thing is that the team has a good mindset, it is an important starting point for next year."

Sampdoria can seal their Europa League berth by beating Empoli in their penultimate game of the season on Sunday.
