Hreidarsson: 'Ronaldo underestimated Iceland'

Former Iceland international Hermann Hreidarsson has said that Cristiano Ronaldo took the Euro 2016 minnows for granted as they held Portugal to a 1-1 draw on Tuesday night.

After a frustrating night in Saint-Etienne, Ronaldo was critical of Iceland's approach on their debut at a major tournament, but Hreidarsson has hit back at the Real Madrid star, suggesting that he would have helped his nation to victory had he been prepared to work hard for his team.

The 41-year-old told BBC Radio 5 live:: "He thought he could have goals handed to him on a plate.

"If he would have worked as hard as every Icelandic player, he wouldn't have had to say anything because I'm sure he would have got his rewards. He didn't fancy it on the day and he just got beaten up."

Nani had given Portugal the lead but Birkir Bjarnason's second-half equaliser earned Iceland a share of the spoils.
