Hull City to make record bid for Jonathan Kodjia?

Hull City are reportedly preparing a club-record £14m bid for Bristol City striker Jonathan Kodjia.

Hull City are reportedly poised to make a club-record bid for Bristol City striker Jonathan Kodjia.

Tigers caretaker manager Mike Phelan is attempting to build on a threadbare squad with just three days remaining of the transfer window and, according to The Telegraph, he views Kodjia as the ideal man to spearhead their Premier League survival.

The 26-year-old joined Bristol from French outfit Angers last summer and impressed with 19 goals in 45 appearances in his debut Championship season.

Hull have reportedly tabled a bid of £14m - comprising an initial £10m, with £4m in add-ons - in order to beat off competition from Aston Villa and Derby County.

"We have received numerous bids over the summer and it was totally my decision to leave him out," said Bristol City manager Lee Johnson, speaking after the side defeated Villa 3-1 on Saturday.

"There has been a lot of speculation about Jonathan. I've been there before when bids have come in for players and it can be an emotional time.

"At this moment in time, nothing has matched our valuation. It will take a lot of money to get one of our players out of this club and we are calling the shots."

Hull City's record signing is striker Abel Hernandez, who joined from Palermo for £10m in 2014.
