Newcastle United see off Hull City, Alan Pardew sees red

Newcastle United comfortably beat Hull City in the Premier League, but their victory is overshadowed by manager Alan Pardew's apparent headbutt on David Meyler.

Newcastle United comfortably overcame Hull City in the Premier League this afternoon, but their victory was overshadowed by manager Alan Pardew's apparent headbutt on David Meyler.

The visitors were in front in the 10th minute when Moussa Sissoko finished clinically on the break after Tim Krul had made a double save from Alex Bruce at the other end.

Nikica Jelavic twice came close to equalising for the Tigers when he first headed wide before his free kick struck the crossbar.

Newcastle made them pay for their missed chances three minutes before the break when Loic Remy pounced on Maynor Figueroa's slack back-pass and rounded Allan McGregor before rolling into the net.

Despite being two down at the break, Hull halved the deficit moments after half time when Curtis Davies headed home Tom Huddlestone's free kick.

The Tigers could only stay within one for nine minutes, though, as Sissoko scored his second by tapping home the rebound after McGregor had kept out Yoan Gouffran's initial effort.

Pardew's moment of madness came in the 72nd minute when he squared up to Meyler on the touchline before clearly moving his head towards the Hull man, a move that saw him sent off by the referee.

Newcastle wrapped up the points in the dying seconds when Vurnon Anita scored his first Premier League goal by slotting home Paul Dummett's pass.

Victory sees Newcastle move to within two points of Manchester United in seventh place, while Hull stay 11th.
