Bruce: 'We couldn't handle the pressure'

Hull City boss Steve Bruce has conceded that his side's performance was not good enough in their 1-0 defeat to Burnley on Saturday.

The Tigers dropped back into the bottom three of the Premier League as Danny Ings scored the only goal of the game to fire Sean Dyche's men to victory, which was not enough to save the Clarets from relegation to the Championship.

Bruce feels that the occasion got the better of his team at the KC Stadium and that has put their top-flight future in jeopardy.

"It was a tense afternoon and with tension comes a fear to play. Unfortunately that is what happened to us," he told reporters. "The whole thing got to the team and we didn't perform to anywhere near the level you need to in this league.

"From where we were a week ago after the performances against Crystal Palace and Liverpool to what we've seen in this game is the frustrating thing for us all. If we're being honest, this has happened too many times.

"We didn't do enough to create enough good chances. We didn't play with the energy or speed we needed. We moved slowly, we passed the ball slowly and it was an awful afternoon."

Hull are two points adrift of safety in 18th place in the table, with two games left in their season.
