Steve Bruce irked by wasteful Hull City

Steve Bruce says that his Hull City side paid the ultimate penalty for missed chances in the 1-0 defeat to bottom-of-the-league Leicester City.

Hull City boss Steve Bruce has rued his side's profligacy in this afternoon's 1-0 defeat to bottom-of-the-table Leicester City at the KC Stadium.

Riyad Mahrez's strike on 33 minutes saw the Foxes secure their first Premier League victory since September as Hull remain one point clear of the relegation zone.

The Tigers threw everything at Leicester in a bid to restore parity, with Jake Livermore and Abel Hernandez both hitting the post, and Bruce says that his troops paid the ultimate penalty for missed chances.

"The players have given everything they've got," he told Sky Sports News.

"The way they responded to going 1-0 down, they were relentless and I don't think Leicester got in our half in the second half but you have to score, it's as simple as that.

"That's why strikers are a lot of money and unfortunately today we've missed too many big chances and at this level you cannot afford to do that because you don't get that many usually."

Victory would have seen Hull - who beat Sunderland 3-1 on Friday - register back-to-back Premier League wins for the first time this season.
