Steve Bruce: 'Hull City made awful mistakes'

Hull City manager Steve Bruce criticises his players after their 3-0 defeat away at West Ham United, claiming that they gifted the game to the opposition.

Hull City manager Steve Bruce has criticised his players after their 3-0 defeat away at West Ham United, claiming that they made a series of mistakes and effectively gifted the game to the hosts.

Sunday's game at Upton Park was goalless at half time, but a second-half collapse allowed Andy Carroll, Morgan Amalfitano and Stewart Downing to secure all three points for the Hammers.

Bruce told BBC Sport after the game: "You've got to take your chances. We haven't taken them often enough. We've got ourselves in wonderful positions and we should have been up after three or four minutes.

"We've gifted West Ham their opportunities and they've taken them. It's become a recurrence. We've got seven or eight big players missing and in the second half it did show.

"We made awful mistakes. But we can't keep bleating on about it, we've got to roll up our sleeves."

Hull are currently languishing near the foot of the Premier League table in 19th place.
