Wells marks Huddersfield debut with winner

Huddersfield Town left it late to beat Millwall 1-0 at the John Smith's Stadium in the Championship.

Nahki Wells, who became Town's record signing by joining from Bradford City for around £1.7m earlier this week, struck an injury-time winner to mark a memorable debut.

Jonathan Hogg found Martin Paterson with a great cross in the opening minutes, but the striker could not get a decent enough connection on the header.

Adam Hammill was fouled on the edge of the box on the half-hour mark, but Adam Clayton could not make the most of it from a promising position with his free kick.

David Forde denied the home side with a great save minutes later, before the keeper stopped Oliver Norwood six minutes before the break.

Liam Trotter went close for Millwall in the second half, but his effort could only find the side-netting.

The hosts enjoyed plenty of possession in the second period, but the Lions looked like holding on for new boss Ian Holloway before Wells hit the winner.
