Paterson rescues point for Huddersfield

Martin Paterson's late equaliser rescued a point for Huddersfield Town this afternoon after Craig Bryson had put Derby County in front.

The visitors were given a penalty 25 minutes into the match when Jamie Ward went down following Joel Lynch's late tackle in the box. However, Huddersfield keeper Alex Smithies blocked Chris Martin's effort and subsequently held on to the rebound.

Derby did not dwell on the missed chance, however, and scored just a few minutes later when Bryson tapped home Martin's knock across goal.

The Rams then came close to doubling their lead when Lynch sliced Bryson's cross onto his own post.

Derby's pressure continued after the break, with Simon Dawkins and Ward firing straight at Smithies.

Huddersfield's Duane Holmes then missed a great chance to score moments after coming on as a substitute but could only fire over from inside the box following Paul Dixon's cross.

A good spell for Huddersfield saw Oliver Norwood's curler force a good save from Derby keeper Lee Grant, and they could have had a penalty when Ward went down under a challenge in the Derby box, but nothing was given.

They eventually equalised when Holmes's chip over the defence was volleyed in by Paterson.

Huddersfield pressed for a winner and almost got it when Ward's shot was saved by Grant but the game ended in a draw.
