David Wagner admits that Huddersfield Town are struggling to produce Premier League quality players from their academy amid rumours of its impending closure.

David Wagner has admitted that Huddersfield Town are struggling to produce Premier League quality players from their academy.

Recent reports have suggested that the Terriers are considering closing their academy because of a lack of players progressing into the first team.

Philip Billing is the only graduate to feature in Wagner's squad and he was signed as a 16-year-old from Esbjerg in Denmark in 2013.

Wagner told reporters on Thursday: "This is what we have done (buy) in the past. We bought, we went to other academies and to other football clubs to find additions for our squad.

"I think this only shows how difficult it is for our academy players. Of course it is a problem for a club of our size to produce Premier League players. It's a problem for a lot of clubs. It is a problem for us for sure as well."

Huddersfield have been operating without an academy manager since Steve Weaver left on August 3.
