Huddersfield Town fans out of pocket after Blackpool pitch invasion

Huddersfield fans won't receive Blackpool compensation

The Football League has failed to award Huddersfield Town fans compensation after their match against Blackpool on May 2 was abandoned.

Up to 200 Blackpool supporters stormed the pitch at half time and refused to leave, forcing the game to be called off.

The FA fined Blackpool £50,000 for failing to control their fans while a Football League Football Disciplinary Commission ordered a three-point deduction, suspended for two seasons.

The commission rejected a claim from Town for £50,000 to compensate the 2,283 fans who had travelled to the game.

According to a recent 15-page report on the incident, even if compensation could be paid it would be "inequitable" to make an order as only between 100 and 200 of the 6,000 Blackpool fans were to blame for the abandonment.

This means that up to 5,900 "home" or "neutral" fans would also be entitled to compensation.
