Chris Powell: 'Huddersfield Town must build on first victory'

Huddersfield Town boss Chris Powell admits to being 'relieved' at picking up a first league win of the season, and now wants to make it back-to-back successes.

Chris Powell has called on his Huddersfield Town players to build on their maiden win of the campaign when playing host to Bolton Wanderers.

The Terriers finally got off the mark for the season by beating Charlton Athletic 2-1 at The Valley on Tuesday night.

Town now have the chance to build some momentum, with home games against Bolton and Nottingham Forest still to come this month, but Powell believes that there is room for further improvement.

"Getting that first win was a hurdle we had to overcome," he is quoted as saying by The Yorkshire Post. "Maybe it was a touch of fate that it came at Charlton, especially after what happened last season.

"But it had been close. The thing is, though, you can't keep saying that. You have to put a total performance in and be fully committed over the course of 90 minutes. We'd had good hours in games when we hadn't really capitalised. It meant we didn't have the stat that really counts - and that is wins.

"The key now is not to get carried away. It is one win and the first one, which is a relief. But we have to now build on that by doing more of the same. I have total belief in this group of players."

Huddersfield find themselves one point above the Championship relegation zone in 20th place.
