Gary Deegan admits that he is "sad" to have been released by Hibernian.

Gary Deegan has admitted that he is "sad" to be leaving Hibernian this summer.

The 25-year-old Irish midfielder was released by the Scottish Premier League club last week after joining from Coventry City in August 2012.

"I will be sad to leave Hibernian and it is a big wrench to know I won't be coming back to the club this summer," Deegan told the Daily Record.

"I am not the kind of player who is happy to sit on the bench and make substitute appearances here and there so I am leaving to pursue regular first-team football."

Deegan scored one goal in 23 games for Hibs during the last campaign.
