Hibernian confirm the death of David Paul, one of the club's most promising youth team players

Hibernian have confirmed the death of David Paul, one of the club's most promising youth team players.

The club revealed on its official website that Paul passed away in the early hours of Sunday morning, with no suspicious circumstances reported.

"Everyone at the club is deeply affected by this. David was a talented and promising young footballer, and a fine young man," said club chairman Rod Petrie.

"Our thoughts - and the thoughts of the entire Hibernian community - are with his family at this dreadful and difficult time for them.

"While we understand that people will wish to offer their support, we hope that the wishes of the family for privacy will be respected."

Paul was on the cusp of gaining first-team football for the Scottish club, having had the ability to play as both a central or attacking midfielder.
