Mitchell Weiser gave Hertha the lead with 10 minutes of the contest played, firing past Ingolstadt keeper Rune Jarstein.

The first half produced few other notable moments as Hertha seemed content with their lead while Ingolstadt were unable to find consistency in attack.

A flurry of substitutions in the second period failed to change the complexion of the game, though Jens Hegeler did round Jarstein but failed to convert into the open goal.
