Lodeweges steps down as Heerenveen boss

Dwight Lodeweges has resigned from his position as the head coach of Eredivisie outfit Heerenveen.

The 57-year-old guided the club to a seventh-place finish last term, but this season a run of just one win in nine outings has seen the team drop to 15th position.

As a result, Lodeweges told the club's official website this afternoon that he had taken the decision to step down "in the interests of the club".

The former Netherlands Under-21 international had been in charge at the Abe Lenstra Stadium since the summer of 2014.
