Second-tier Aalen knock Hannover out of DFB-Pokal

Lowly second-tier side Aalen pull off a shock result by knocking Bundesliga side Hannover out of the DFB-Pokal in the second round.

Bundesliga side Hannover have been knocked out in the DFB-Pokal's second round by second-tier side Aalen.

The hosts, who are second-bottom of the 2. Bundesliga, netted either side of half time to record a memorable victory at the Scholz Arena.

Hannover had all the early attempts in the first 20 minutes but then fell behind midway through the opening period when Ceyhun Gulselam turned the ball into his own net in the six-yard box.

Aalen were two up just before the hour mark when Michael Klauss tucked home after a pass from Dominick Drexler.

Hannover, seventh in the Bundesliga, finished with 13 shots to Aalen's four, but couldn't beat Daniel Bernhardt between the sticks.
