Two teams with zero points from their opening two matches of the 2025-26 La Liga campaign will lock horns on Saturday evening, with Girona welcoming Sevilla to Estadi Montilivi.
The hosts are rock bottom of the La Liga table, while the visitors are in 18th, with both teams struggling to get going in the opening two gameweeks of the new season.
Match preview
Girona struggled last season after a glorious 2023-24 campaign saw them finish third - only 41 points were secured in La Liga last term, and they finished the campaign in 16th, one point outside of the relegation zone.
The Catalan outfit have been tipped to struggle again this season, and it has been a disappointing start, with successive defeats to Rayo Vallecano and Villarreal leaving them at the bottom of the division on zero points.
Michel's side suffered a 3-1 home defeat to Rayo Vallecano in gameweek one before losing 5-0 to Villarreal last time out, and another defeat here would be incredibly damaging ahead of the September international break.
Girona have only ever faced Sevilla on 10 previous occasions, and they lead the head-to-head six wins to four, but it was 2-1 to Sevilla when the two teams locked horns in the corresponding game last term.
Sevilla finished 17th in La Liga last season, which represented their worst campaign since being relegated back in 1999-2000, and it does appear that it will be another tough campaign for the club.
Not too long ago, Sevilla were a top-four outfit, finishing fourth in three successive seasons between 2020 and 2022, but they have been 12th, 14th and 17th in their last three campaigns at this level.
Now under the leadership of Matias Almeyda, Sevilla opened their campaign with a 3-2 defeat to Athletic Bilbao, before going down 2-1 at home to Getafe last time out, and they currently sit down in 18th spot in the table.
Los Nervionenses, as mentioned, overcame Girona in the corresponding game last season, but they have been beaten in six of their last seven contests with the Catalan outfit.
It is not time to hit the panic button, but relegation would be absolutely devastating for Sevilla, and huge improvements are required if they are to avoid being in another battle to remain in the top division.

Team News
Girona will definitely be missing Donny van de Beek and Yangel Herrera through injury on Saturday, while Abel Ruiz is a major doubt for the Catalan outfit.
Paulo Gazzaniga is available again after serving a suspension, and he is set to return between the sticks.
Daley Blind and Thomas Lemar are also expected to be among the starters, while it is likely that 38-year-old Cristhian Stuani will be given the nod through the middle for the hosts.
As for Sevilla, a whole host of first-team players are set to be unavailable for selection.
Joan Jordan, Adnan Januzaj, Tanguy Nianzou, Akor Adams and Stanis Idumbo are definitely out of the match, while Ramon Martinez, Dodi Lukebakio and Djibril Sow are all fitness doubts.
Isaac Romero is likely to be given the nod at centre-forward for Sevilla, while there should be a spot in midfield for Lucien Agoume, who has been linked with Manchester United during this summer's transfer window.
Girona possible starting lineup:
Gazzaniga; Rincon, Reis, Blind, Moreno; Lopez, Solis; Tsygankov, Lemar, Roca; Stuani
Sevilla possible starting lineup:
Nyland; Sanchez, Castrin, Salas, Carmona; Agoume, Gudelj; Fernandez, Vargas, Ejuke; Romero
We say: Girona 1-1 Sevilla
It is difficult to back either side with any real confidence at the moment, so we can see a tight and cagey affair finishing all square, which would at least allow both teams to get a point on the board.
