Gimnasia vs Tucuman - prediction, team news, lineups

Seeking their first away victory in the second phase of the Argentine Primera Division campaign, Atletico Tucuman will visit Estadio Juan Carmelo Zerillo in La Plata for a date with Gimnasia on Monday.

Decano are now two points above Gimnasia in the Group B table after the former defeated Talleres Cordoba 3-0, and the latter lost 1-0 to San Martin.

Match preview

Close games are becoming a habit for El Lobo in this competition, but at the moment, few of those narrow results are going their way.

The club based in La Plata have lost three matches in this phase by a single goal, as many as they suffered by that margin in the Apertura this year.

Heading into matchday seven, Alejandro Orfila’s men are now a point behind their arch-rivals San Martin for the last place in the final stages of the Clausura.

Gimnasia have netted a goal or fewer in all but one of their 2025 Argentine Primera affairs on home soil, scoring a mere four goals in this phase of the competition, two at home.

All six of their combined domestic triumphs this season have occurred when drawing first blood, with this team suffering just one defeat after doing so (2-1 versus Lanus in August).

Three of their previous four home matches played against Tucuman across all competitions ended in a victory for Gimnasia, including a 1-0 win last November.

In what was their most decisive triumph of the campaign to date, Atletico scored as many goals last Saturday as they had in their previous four league contests combined.

Lucas Pusineri’s team have suffered just one defeat in the second phase (1-0 at Deportivo Riestra) but have not triumphed away from home since matchday one of the Apertura at San Martin (1-0).

If they can earn maximum points on matchday seven, it would equal their longest winning run domestically from the 2025 Apertura campaign (two games).

Tucuman are unbeaten in six consecutive league fixtures this year when scoring first, dropping points in only one of those instances (1-1 at home to Central Cordoba in July).

Their eight goals scored are the second-most in Group B thus far, though only two of them took place outside of Estadio Monumental Jose Fierro.

El Gigante del Norte have lost the previous three meetings versus Gimnasia, with their last win against them as the visitors occurring in November 2023 (2-1).

Team News

In their defeat to San Martin, Gimnasia were missing Norberto Briasco, Alejandro Piedrahita, Matias Melluso and Jan Hurtado with muscle problems, while Franco Torres sat out because of a cruciate ligament tear.

There were two new faces in their starting 11 from matchday five to six as Pedro Silva Torrejon and Jeremias Merlo came in to replace Juan Manuel Fernandez Villalba and Briasco.

Meanwhile, Ignacio Galvan sat out of Tucuman’s previous outing with a muscle strain, Moises Brandan had a calf tear, while Juan Infante and Renzo Tesuri were sidelined due to cruciate ligament ruptures.

Leandro Diaz, Miguel Brizuela and Adrian Sanchez all found the back of the net the last time out, though Clever Domingo Ferreira Namandu was sent off in second-half stoppage time and will be suspended on Sunday.

Gimnasia possible starting lineup:

Insfran; Pintado, Giampaoli, Suso, Torrejon; Seoane, Garayalde; Mamut, Perez, Panaro; M. Torres

Atletico Tucuman possible starting lineup:

Mansilla; Martinez, Ferrari, M. Ortiz, Brizuela; Sanchez, K. Ortiz, Godoy, Lamendola; Diaz, Rodriguez

We say: Gimnasia 1-0 Atletico Tucuman

The last five competitive meetings between these sides were decided by a single goal, and Tucuman seem to struggle in clutch situations away from home, which is why we believe the home team will emerge victorious.
