Davies sidelined by ankle injury

Gillingham manager Peter Taylor has revealed that defender Callum Davies will undergo surgery on an ankle injury sustained while playing for Dover Athletic.

Davies, who signed a new contract with the club in October, had been loaned to the Conference Premier side after initially suffering the problem earlier this season.

Taylor told the club's official website: "It's an old injury that flared up again. He got the injury against Scunthorpe here and we were told by a consultant that if he had good rest, then it would be fine.

"I never thought he wouldn't last the loan at Dover and unfortunately, when he played at Cheltenham in the FA Cup, something wasn't right and he came off after 40 minutes.

"The same consultant has looked at him again and he is going to need an operation. He won't be playing football for at least three months."

The 21-year-old has made 39 first-team appearances since he made his first-team debut in 2010.
