Germany winger Andre Schurrle is ruled out of the team's Euro 2016 qualifier against the Republic of Ireland due to a cold.

Germany winger Andre Schurrle has been forced to miss tonight's Euro 2016 qualifier against the Republic of Ireland due to a cold.

The world champions welcome Ireland to Gelsenkirchen looking to bounce back following Saturday's shock defeat to Poland.

A brief statement from the German national team read: "Andre Schurrle has caught a cold and will not be available for the game against Republic of Ireland tonight. The Chelsea attacker has already departed from the team hotel in Essen."

Germany are currently in third place in Group D with three points, while Ireland sit in second place after winning both of their opening matches.
