Sami Khedira sick of Germany captaincy questions following Schweinsteiger call-up

Sami Khedira says that he is "tired" of answering questions about the Germany captaincy after Bastian Schweinsteiger was included in the Euro 2016 squad.

Sami Khedira has admitted that he is "tired" of answering questions about his desire to be permanent Germany captain after regular skipper Bastian Schweinsteiger was included in the Euro 2016 squad.

There were doubts over whether Schweinsteiger would be named in Joachim Low's 23-man party after suffering a knee injury in March, which ruled him out of the domestic season.

However, the experienced midfielder, who helped his nation win the World Cup in Brazil 2014, will be on the plane to France for Euro 2016, which gets underway next week.

Khedira has been wearing the captain's armband in Schweinsteiger's absence, but has no issue handing it back to the Manchester United player.

"I'm getting tired of questions about the captaincy," Khedira told the official DFB website. "Bastian is our captain. It doesn't change anything if I wear the captain's armband or not. Obviously it's an honour to captain the German national team.

"Basti is very focused and he left a good impression in his first training match. He still has a few days. We are all very glad to have him on board with us."

Germany will face Ukraine in their opening group game on June 12.
