Sergio Ramos insists that Spain were the better side in his country's penalty shootout win over Portugal in tonight's Euro 2012 semi-final.

Sergio Ramos has insisted that Spain were the better side in his country's penalty shootout win over Portugal in tonight's Euro 2012 semi-final.

La Roja found themselves on the back foot at times, but the Real Madrid man is adamant that the result was fair.

"After a very long season with so much work, we deserved this," the defender told Telecinco.

"We are happy with the performance of the team. Individual success is not as important as the collective one, which is to reach the final. I am proud to be Spanish."

There two sides were level at 0-0 after 90 minutes and the extra time that followed, with Spain coming on 4-2 winners in the penalty shootout.

Spain will take on either Germany or Italy in the final.
