Fulham's Europa League chances are dealt a blow with a 1-0 defeat at FC Twente.

Fulham's Europa League chances have been dealt a blow with a 1-0 defeat at FC Twente.

The first real opening fell the hosts' way after 15 minutes when Nacer Chadli found space in the Fulham area, only to fire at Mark Schwarzer.

Despite the early opening, both sides lacked any conviction in front of goal in the first half.

Fulham's first clear-cut opportunity came after 64 minutes when Andrew Johnson flashed his shot wide after the ball had broken to him in the Twente penalty area.

The Dutch side should have gone in front minutes later when Luuk De Jong had a free header from eight yards out. However, the striker could only put the ball wide of the post.

Martin Jol's side went close again on 70 minutes, but Bobby Zamora poked the ball wide after a clever free kick from Danny Murphy.

Twente finally did find a goal with two minutes to play when substitute Marc Janko tapped in.

The Cottagers' misery was compounded in injury time when Johnson was sent off after he received his second yellow card for kicking the ball away.

The Premier League side must now beat Odense at home in their final game to qualify for the knockout stages.
