Didier Deschamps: 'Raphael Varane, Paul Pogba could start against Spain'

Deschamps hints at Varane, Pogba starts

France coach Didier Deschamps has revealed that youngsters Raphael Varane and Paul Pogba could start against Spain in their World Cup qualifier on Tuesday.

The Real Madrid centre-back and the Juventus midfielder both made their international debuts for Les Blues in their 3-1 home win against Georgia in Group I on Friday.

"Why not see Varane and Pogba again from the start against Spain? I didn't pick them just for the Georgia game," Deschamps told Ligue1.com.

"They're playing top level games every three to four days at club level for big clubs. Tuesday's match will be on a level equal to a Champions League final or a World Cup final because we'll take on the best side in the world. That's the same for all our players.

"Their youth brings with it enthusiasm and they play with freedom. They played for the team. You can't ask the same of a player on his debut as from someone with 50 or 80 caps but I had no fears for them. The quality they'd shown for their clubs or in the training sessions shone through in a competitive environment."

France will head into Tuesday's game two points clear of second-placed Spain at the top of the group.
