Fleetwood Town appoint Graham Alexander as manager

Alexander appointed Fleetwood boss

Fleetwood Town have named Graham Alexander as their new manager.

The 41-year-old replaces Micky Mellon, who was sacked after the club's 3-2 defeat to Aldershot in the FA Cup on Saturday.

Alexander, who will take up his first permanent managerial role, had been working as head of youth development at Preston North End.

The former Scotland international, who played for Preston, Scunthorpe, Luton and Burnley, made 1,024 professional appearances before announcing his retirement from playing in April.

The Cod Army are seventh in League Two ahead of Alexander's first game in charge against Southend on Saturday.
