Fiorentina ease past Cagliari

Fiorentina ease past Cagliari

Fiorentina have claimed successive victories in Serie A for the first time this season by earning a 4-0 win against Cagliari this afternoon.

Matias Fernandez had the first chance of the game when his free kick from out wide was tipped behind by Alessio Cragno.

The Chilean went one better with his next set piece, as his effort from a similar position missed everyone inside the box and found the back of the net.

Cagliari looked for a quick response and Luca Ceppitelli saw his header back across goal saved by Neto.

Victor Ibarbo had another chance for the hosts at the end of the first half when he burst through on goal, but he scuffed the ball wide of the far post with just the keeper to beat.

They almost levelled the scores five minutes into the second half, but Diego Farias saw his attempt from close range blocked on the line by Stefan Savic.

Fiorentina punished their opponents for that missed chance by scoring a second through Fernandez, who latched onto a loose ball just outside the box, before drilling a strike into the bottom corner.

Mario Gomez should have added a third for the hosts moments later, but, after being played through on goal by Borja Valero, he blazed his strike over the bar.

The German made up for that miss by finding the net in the 69th minute, as he raced onto Joaquin's through pass and confidently slotted beyond Cragno.

Fiorentina grabbed a fourth goal five minutes later when Juan Cuadrado collected Valero's defence-splitting pass and placed an effort into the far corner to wrap up the points.
