Feyenoord beat Heracles thanks to Elvis Manu brace

Feyenoord win thanks to Manu brace

A first-half double from Elvis Manu was enough for Feyenoord to beat Heracles 2-1 in the Eredivisie tonight.

The division's bottom side pulled one back in the second half through Jeroen Veldmate's penalty, but Feyenoord held out for their third successive league win.

Mitchell Te Vrede and former Sheffield United winger Colin Kazim-Richards had scored eight of Feyenoord's 11 goals this season, but Manu stepped up to share the goalscoring burden this evening.

The 21-year-old opened the scoring on 12 minutes following a pass from Luke Wilkshire, and made the most of another good ball, this time from Jens Toornstra, to soon double the home side's lead at De Kuip.

Things were made more difficult for Heracles when influential midfielder Iliass Bel Hassani was forced off with injury.

They were given a lifeline on 63 minutes when Joel Pelupessy was fouled in the box, allowing defender Veldmate to convert calmly from the spot for the second time this season.

However, Heracles struggled to mount any sustained pressure on the Feyenoord goal in their search for an equaliser, as they failed to build on their first victory of the season prior to the international break.

They remain rooted to the foot of the table, while Fred Rutten's side climb five places to fifth.
