Feyenoord vs. Ajax - prediction, team news, lineups

In their first outing as this season's Eredivisie champions, Ajax travel to De Kuip on Sunday for a heavyweight clash against Feyenoord.

Meanwhile, Feyenoord are seeking an immediate response after they were on the receiving end of a shock defeat last time out.

Match preview

Ajax finally laid their hands on a long-awaited 35th Eredivisie title on Sunday courtesy of a 4-0 win over Emmen at the Johan Cruyff ArenA.

Goals from Jurrien Timber, Sebastien Haller, Devyne Rensch and Davy Klaassen confirmed what had been coming for a long time now.

Erik ten Hag's men have now secured a domestic double following a 2-1 win over Vitesse in last month's KNVB-Beker final.

De Godenzonen will now attempt to finish the campaign in the strongest way possible with targets like scoring 100 goals still on the cards.

Feyenoord had their six-game unbeaten run ended by ADO Den Haag who upset the odds by claiming a 3-2 victory when the sides met on Sunday.

Despite taking the lead, Dick Advocaat's men were unable to see out the game as they fell behind by two goals at some point, before Nicolai Jorgensen added a bit of gloss to the scoreline.

As things stand, De Stadionclub are in fifth position on the log, a whooping 24 points behind this weekend's opponents.

Sunday's hosts also have a poor record in this fixture having won just two of the last 18 meetings in all competitions dating back to 2013.

However, they claimed a 6-2 win in their last home league game against the visitors, and they will be hopeful of achieving something similar.

Team News

The headline absentees for Feyenoord are Steven Berghuis and Jens Toornstra who are both suspended for Sunday's match.

Bart Nieuwkoop has not made an appearance since injuring his thigh in the home team's defeat to AZ Alkmaar in February.

Daley Blind sustained an ankle injury while on international duty, and he is expected to be unavailable for the champions' trip to Rotterdam.

Andre Onana has been banned from all footballing activities until February 2022 after testing positive for Furosemide in a drug test that was conducted in October.

Seventeen-year-old Naci Unuvar is a huge doubt for the game as the Dutch winger remains sidelined with a knee problem.

Feyenoord possible starting lineup:

Marsman; Geertruida, Spajic, Senesi, Malacia; Fer, Kokcu, Teixeira; Sinisterra, Bozenik, Linssen

Ajax possible starting lineup:

Stekelenburg; Martinez, Timber, Tagliafico, Rensch; Gravenberch, Alvarez, Klaassen; Tadic, Haller, Antony

We say: Feyenoord 2-2 Ajax

Having got the job done last week, Ajax can afford to take their foot off the gas slightly for the remaining matches. However, we still fancy them to have enough in the tank to pick up a point this weekend in what should be a fascinating encounter.
