Preview: Fenerbahce vs. Hull City - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Sunday's Club Friendlies 1 clash between Fenerbahce and Hull City, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Hull City will begin their preparations for the 2022-23 campaign with a pre-season friendly against Turkish giants Fenerbahce on Sunday evening.

The Tigers are working towards their Championship opener against Bristol City on July 30, while Fenerbahce have already played five friendlies this summer, winning each of their last four.

Fenerbahce finished second in Turkey's top flight last season, picking up 73 points from their 38 matches, which left them eight points behind the champions Trabzonspor.

The Yellow Canaries are 19-time Turkish champions, but they have not actually lifted the trophy since 2014, with Galatasaray, Besiktas, Trabzonspor and Istanbul Basaksehir winning the title in recent years.

Fenerbahce are already deep into their preparations for the 2022-23 campaign, playing five friendlies this summer, winning each of their last four against Tiranda, Al Shamal, Partizan and Fehervar.

Jorge Jesus's side will take on Dinamo Kiev in the second qualifying round of the Champions League, with the first leg due to be held on July 20, while their league season is due to begin against Umraniyespor on August 6.

The Turkish giants have been relatively busy this summer in terms of incomings, with Diego Rossi, Lincoln and Emre Mor arriving, while Bruma has made the move to the club on loan from PSV Eindhoven.

Hull, meanwhile, have not been in action since finishing their 2021-22 Championship season with a 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest on May 7.

The Tigers finished 19th in the second tier last term, 14 points above the relegation zone, and they will certainly be looking to push higher up the division in 2022-23.

Shota Arveladze's side will take on Malaga, Leicester City, Cambridge United and Peterborough United in their final four friendlies of the summer.

Hull will then begin their new Championship campaign against Bristol City on July 30 before opening August with a trip to Preston North End.

The Tigers have actually signed Ozan Tufan from Fenerbahce this summer, while Tobias Figueiredo and Nathan Baxter have also arrived in the current market, with the former moving on a free transfer from Nottingham Forest and the latter returning on loan from Chelsea.

Team News

Fenerbahce have already played five friendlies this summer, so the fitness of their players should be superior, and there might not be wholesale changes at this stage of their pre-season, with head coach Jesus preparing for their two-legged Champions League affair with Dinamo Kiev.

Bruma, who has arrived on loan from PSV, is again likely to feature in the final third of the field and could be joined by Serdar Dursun and Rossi.

Former Blackpool and Queens Park Rangers midfielder Bright Osayi-Samuel came off in the first half of the friendly against Fehervar, though, and he could now miss out on a spot in the side.

As for Hull, Richard Smallwood, Tom Eaves and George Honeyman are among those to leave the club this summer, so there could be a start at centre-forward for James Scott.

Keane Lewis-Potter is unlikely to play, with the attacker being strongly linked with a switch to Brentford, which could open the door for Mallik Wilks.

Head coach Arveladze is also expected to call upon some youngsters in Sunday's pre-season friendly, but there will be plenty of experience, with Callum Elder and Sean McLoughlin both likely to start.

Fenerbahce possible starting lineup:
Bayindir; Novak, Demir, Szalai, Kadioglu; Kahveci, Yuksek, Pelkas; Rossi, Dursun, Bruma

Hull City possible starting lineup:
Baxter; Jones, McLoughlin, Greaves; Longman, Tufan, Slater, Elder; Docherty, Scott, Wilks

We say: Fenerbahce 2-1 Hull City

Fenerbahce are much further ahead in their preparations for the new season, and the Turkish giants have been in strong form during pre-season. Hull will be competitive opposition for Jesus's side, but we are expecting the Istanbul club to emerge victories in this contest.
