Gibson returns to ROI squad

Everton midfielder Darron Gibson has been recalled to the Republic of Ireland squad for their World Cup qualifiers against Germany and Kazakhstan next month.

The 25-year-old has not represented his country ever since he withdrew his services after Euro 2012, where he believed that he deserved to feature on a regular basis.

However, following the departure of Giovanni Trapattoni, interim boss Noel King has selected the former Manchester United player, who has been joined by Andy Reid and Anthony Stokes.

There was no place for Hull City's Robbie Brady, though, because the winger has a hernia problem.

Ireland squad:

Goalkeepers: Forde, Westwood, Randolph,

Defenders: O'Shea, Dunne, O'Brien, St Ledger, Wilson, Coleman, Kelly, Clark, McShane

Midfielders: Gibson, Whelan, McCarthy, Green, Reid, McGeady, Pilkington, McClean, Quinn, Hoolahan

Strikers: Long, Keane, Walters, Doyle, Stokes
