Chris Sutton urges Celtic to re-sign Aiden McGeady

Chris Sutton believes that Celtic should make a move to bring Everton winger Aiden McGeady back to Parkhead.

Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton has encouraged the club to re-sign winger Aiden McGeady.

The 29-year-old, who is currently on Everton's books, made over 250 appearances for the Bhoys prior to his departure for Russian side Spartak Moscow in 2010.

McGeady has been used sparingly by the Toffees this season, which has resulted in speculation that he will exit Goodison Park this month in order to secure himself a place in the Republic of Ireland squad for Euro 2016.

Sutton has insisted that the Irishman would be a perfect fit at Parkhead, given that the team and supporters are in need of a "lift" following a run of just four victories from their last 10 outings in all competitions.

"I know McGeady has his faults but he is exactly the kind of player Celtic need right now," Sutton wrote in the Daily Record.

"They are crying out for someone who can lift the supporters and shake them out of their boredom.

"Aiden can do that. He might not have the same burst of pace he had when he was a kid but he can still beat a man and produce a moment of magic."

A number of English Championship clubs are also said to be interested in the son of John McGeady - a former Sheffield United player.
