Roberto Martinez rules out exit of "phenomenal" Darron Gibson

Roberto Martinez says that the "phenomenal" Darron Gibson will not be leaving Everton in the mid-season window.

Everton boss Roberto Martinez has said that the "phenomenal" Darron Gibson will not be leaving the club this month.

Former Toffees midfielder Kevin Kilbane recently advised the out-of-favour midfielder to leave in search of first-team football for the good of his career.

However, Martinez says that the 27-year-old, who is yet to start a Premier League game this season, remains an integral member of his squad.

"Well that's just someone else's comments but no from our point of view we just want to get Darron fully fit and for him to fight for a position," he told the Irish Examiner.

"Darron is a phenomenal midfielder. The attributes he brings into the squad, I don't think anyone else has them.

"We want him fighting for his position in the team and to enjoy his football and that's my only concern at the moment."

The Irishman's contract expires in 2016.
