Bill Kenwright talks up Wayne Rooney Everton return

Kenwright talks up Rooney Everton return

Everton chairman Bill Kenwright has told Wayne Rooney that he can re-sign for the club at some point in the future.

Rooney rose through the ranks at the Toffees before sealing a £26m move to Manchester United in 2004, but Kenwright says that the door is always open over a return.

"He comes back to Goodison. He's an Evertonian and his family are. He is welcome to come back," he told BBC Sport.

Rooney - captain of both United and England - marked his 100th Three Lions appearance by scoring in Saturday's 3-1 win over Slovenia in Euro 2016 qualifying.

He has scored 219 goals in his 10-year spell at Old Trafford thus far.
