Barkley eyes first-team role at Everton

Everton midfielder Ross Barkley has said that he is keen to impress the club's new manager in order to establish himself as a first-team regular.

The 19-year-old, who has been included in a provisional 35-man England squad for the upcoming Under-20 World Cup, was named as Everton's Young Player of the Season for 2012-13.

"Things like the award give me real hope of becoming a first-team regular and I'm thinking about next season already," he told the Toffees' official website.

"I've got the Under-20 World Cup coming up, so I haven't really got a summer but I'll be ready for the pre-season, for the new manager and hopefully I'll impress him."

Barkley has started only four Premier League games for Everton since making his debut in August 2011.
