Harry Winks: 'Representing England a dream come true'

Winks: 'England debut a dream come true'

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks has admitted that he is in dreamland after being handed his senior international bow for England in Sunday's win against Lithuania.

The 21-year-old, called up to the squad after Fabian Delph withdrew through injury earlier this week, played the full 90 minutes in the Three Lions' final World Cup qualifying game.

Winks was happy with his personal performance in Vilnius and says that he has already achieved one of his career targets by representing his national side.

"Fortunately, it went well tonight. It was a great day," he told Sky Sports News. "To get the win was the main thing obviously but, on a personal note, it was a dream come true.

"I've wanted to play for England since I can remember; as soon as I kicked a ball. It's something you aspire to do at any level. To get a full cap is a dream."

Winks is one of 15 Premier League players to have earned an England debut while playing under Mauricio Pochettino at club level.
