Wayne Rooney hails 'best' England squad

Wayne Rooney has insisted that the current England squad is the best that he has been involved with during his international career.

The Manchester United forward has been part of the Three Lions setup since making his debut in 2003, but he believes that the young players involved in their World Cup squad can make a positive impact.

"It's probably the best squad I've been involved in so it's great to be a part of," the Football Association's official website quotes him as saying.

"I am looking forward to this tournament and the future with England because it certainly looks bright."

England face Italy in their opening World Cup match on Saturday.
