Ashley Cole ruled out for England

Ashley Cole has been ruled out of England's World Cup qualifier against Ukraine on Tuesday after failing to recover from an ankle injury.

The Chelsea defender missed Friday's 5-0 win in Moldova having picked up the problem in the Blues' European Super Cup defeat to Atletico Madrid a week earlier.

The 31-year-old has now been told that he must rest instead of lining up for his country at Wembley Stadium next week.

However, John Terry could yet face the Ukrainians, despite limping off in the latter stages against Moldova with an ankle injury.
