Harry Kane out to break England assist record against Senegal

Harry Kane will be out to break an England assist record when the Three Lions take on Senegal in their World Cup 2022 last-16 clash on Sunday at the Al Bayt Stadium.

The Tottenham Hotspur man is yet to find the back of the net in Qatar, but he has demonstrated his playmaking abilities by providing three assists for his teammates.

Kane set up Raheem Sterling and Marcus Rashford's strikes in England's opening 6-2 win over Iran, and the captain also found Phil Foden at the back post for the Three Lions' second in their 3-0 success over Wales.

By chalking up a trio of assists, the 29-year-old has become the first Englishman to set up that many goals in a single World Cup campaign after David Beckham did so in the 2002 tournament.

Should Kane claim another assist against Senegal in Sunday's knockout battle, he will become the first England man to set up four goals at a single major competition since 1966.

Kane is also edging closer to the England all-time record, sitting third in the charts with 51 goals, only behind Ellen White (52) and current leader Wayne Rooney (53).

Gareth Southgate's side will meet Poland or reigning champions France in the quarter-finals of the 2022 World Cup should they avoid defeat against Senegal, who are aiming to become the first African nation to beat England at the 21st attempt.
