Spurs play down Redknapp's England chances

Tottenham Hotspur director Keith Mills believes that there is no guarantee that Harry Redknapp will be offered the vacant managerial position with England.

The 64-year-old, who was cleared of tax evasion charges yesterday, has become the overwhelming favourite to replace Fabio Capello after the Italian coach resigned from his post.

While Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has refused to comment on speculation linking Redknapp to the Three Lions job, Mills has stated that it is not an "ideal scenario" to take the role on a part-time basis until the European Championships in four months' time.

"It's not a foregone conclusion that Redknapp will be approached by the FA," Sky Sports News quotes Mills as saying. "If he is clearly approached then Harry has a big decision to make.

"I know he loves the club. He's managing a top three team in the biggest league. Clearly it's not an ideal scenario and trying to do two jobs is a stretch for anyone."

While Redknapp has been tipped to take the role, former Chelsea caretaker manager Guus Hiddink is believed to be interested in the England job.
